Buffalo Ridge finished!

Woo hoo! I finished hand stitching the binding on my Buffalo Ridge quilt this morning.  It’s a BIG quilt and was quite a project.  It seemed like a million pieces (more on that later!) but so worth it in the end because I really like it.  This is one of the quilts from the book All-Time Favorite Scrap Quilts—the book our monthly sewing group is working through.  It was kind of sunny this afternoon so I took my quilt stand outside so I could photograph it in natural light.  Unfortunately the stand fell over and a piece broke off so I couldn’t use it.  I ended up folding it and hanging it on this drying rack so this is only a quarter of the quilt.

Buffalo Ridge

This is my favorite kind of quilt—lots of fabrics and more intricate piecing.  I know that’s not the trend now but I just love the rich, warm colors and the way it just sparkles from the light/dark contrast.

While I was piecing the borders it looked like I was going to have flying geese units left over.  When the borders were finished this is what I had left over.

Leftover fg

Twice as many flying geese than I needed!!  Usually I’m pretty good at math (good thing since I’m an accountant!!)  so I thought I must have read the instructions wrong.   I went back to the pattern to see what I did wrong.  Guess what?  There is an error in the book.  It tells you to make 288 flying geese units when only 144 are needed.  Not to worry, though.  Not much in my sewing room goes unused and I already have a plan to use these extras.  It’s going to be another great quilt!!
